An Ending, An Insight, And A Vacation
When space is created in your life it can seem as if something has been lost and you are left less than you were before. But contrary to the mind’s idea of space, that opening is the foundation of abundance.
When it comes down to it, an abundance of space is really just the platform on which abundance manifests. I say this as I move into what looks like a wide-open field of possibilities in my own life. My incredible teaching experience that was grant-funded these past four years has reached its end date, and I am humbled with gratitude. Whenever I feel an inner longing towards what was, I know I experienced something to be thankful for, and any bitter-sweetness changes to pure sweetness.
Over a year ago I began planning a vacation to Florida. While I didn’t know at the time what my life was going to look like a year later, the trip is arriving right on schedule. One week ago I had my last day of work, and in one day I leave for a ten-day excursion. The universal schedule is too vast to contain in a mind, but it is prompt and efficient nonetheless! Trusting in time is the same as trusting in the present moment, it is allowing life to exist as it is and consequently aligning your own experience with its perfect unfolding.
How To Be Abundant In The Midst Of Lack
In the middle of the night as I lay in bed drifting off to sleep during a particularly humorous episode of Futurama, I had the idea to check my bank account and bills. This one small thought, instantly acted upon, led me to attempt to figure out how everything is going to work out with a looming credit card bill, rent just having been deducted, and a future with a job funded by a grant that is a few months away from ending.
In unconscious moments the ego easily gains a strong hold on your attention. It presents thoughts that you already strongly identify with, in moments where you will follow those thoughts to the point of action, creating a reality not based upon real life, but upon a thought pattern.
It was all too easy to stay awake even longer with a train of thought that I kept running after as if it could somehow help me.
That is the illusion. Identification with thought always seems like it will benefit you, because thoughts are created to promote themselves. Thoughts are quite good at convincing your attention they are important and necessary often to the detriment of your actual welfare and living reality.
I could see, as the night dwindled, I was being taken in not only by thought patterns but also by negative emotions, and however attractive that negative energy may seem at the time, it cannot improve any situation. The night eventually set me about sleeping.
Today Chicago is a blanket of luminescent snow, a task to navigate through but incredible to behold. The abundance of life is making itself impossible to miss. It is everywhere and affects everything around it. An abundance of snow is an outward manifestation of the nature of the universe, of life itself. The fact of the outer existence of form is the evidence of the overflowing abundance of the ether, of God.
Creation, abundance, life begins in the formless, it begins within. The formless is the foundation from which all outer form manifests. For all of the things in this world, like money, love, enjoyment, knowledge, we first must set the platform from which it will manifest outwardly in form. There has to be an inner reality first.
No matter how many reasons your mind gives you to worry, and believe that your immediately perceived situation is your end-all be-all, you will not achieve change or prosperity until you experience the reality of abundance within yourself, as yourself. You are living proof of an abundant universe where we have the opportunity to exist and thrive, and for our needs to be met and exceeded.
Experiment with feeling abundance in the present moment. Look around and see the abundance of things, of electricity, of water, of snow, of people, and know that it is your reality. For me, when I get into a place where all I see is lack I take a little while to snap out of it. Listing in your mind what you are grateful for can help bring you into a prosperous state and give you a real experience of the abundant nature of the universe. Then with a clear mind and an open heart you can observe the transformation of your situation, however it may look.
Living For The Weekend And The Secret To Joy
What is so wonderful about a vacation to the Caribbean? What is appealing about walking along a white sandy beach at sunset? Why do we so often long for the next vacation, or live for the weekend? To put it simply, we long for the feeling.
If you’ve ever had a wonderful experience on vacation, or a revitalizing weekend after a long week of work, you have experienced a beautiful inner feeling that keeps you coming back for more. Many addictions begin just this way. There is an experience of a feeling that you enjoy to such an extent that you want to feel it again and again. What are you actually enjoying?
Your mind will tell you, “I love the margarita,” or, “I love laying on the beach in the sun with nothing to do and a good book to read.” The mind confuses the state of joy with the outer experience it perceives while in that state. But it is not the form of the experience that keeps you coming back for more. It is the state of joy. The joy of being. I call it a “state” because it is not the same as an emotion that passes through your consciousness and then dissipates. Joy is an inherent natural state of the being that you are. Joy is discovered when layers of form, emotions, and thoughts are uncovered. Joy is revealed, not created.
That longing for a vacation, or the weekend, is a longing to be back in that state of pure joy, your true state of being. Once you have realized that what is so enjoyable about a good time is not the experience, but the state of joy itself, you open yourself up to being able to experience that which you desire regardless of circumstance. Joy is your natural state, it is always present. It merely gets covered up by thoughts and the “cares of the world.” How did you feel on your last vacation? How did you feel Friday after work was over? Relax and allow that sensation to well up from within you, imagine you are on that beautiful sandy beach with clear waves rolling over your toes. Joy can be uncovered at any moment in any situation; it doesn’t have to be Friday.
The following video on manifesting abundance operates under this very same principle. Abundance, like joy, comes from within. The experience of abundance in outer form is only its surface layer. The state of abundance originates within you:
“Mastering the Art of Manifestation”
The other week I talked about the difference between feeling and knowing. When it comes to creating your own reality, I think this difference is the key component. For example, I can say in my head all day, “I am rich, I am rich, I know I am rich,” when inside I still feel like that is not true. That feeling of lack on the inside aligns me with a world that demonstrates lack. When I feel I don’t have enough, everything around me reminds me of that truth. I’ll see people with fancy cars that I don’t think I can buy, or see high price tags and feel like I will never be able to afford expensive items.
Although the disparity between what you want to have, and what you feel you have, can prevent you from manifesting your desired reality, there is a real choice when it comes to how you feel. In this video Dr. Wayne Dyer talks to Oprah on Super Soul Sunday about how to manifest your dreams by coming into alignment with them. When you decide to feel abundant, grateful, and peaceful, you are in alignment with all that is created out of abundance. When you feel peace inside, you attract more peace. When you feel infinitely whole and abundant on the inside, you will attract wholeness and abundance into your life. Wishing for a new car, when you feel like you’ll never afford it, will keep that wish unfulfilled. So if you want a new car, or whatever it is you’re believing for, start by simply telling yourself that you are everything you will ever need. Tell yourself you already have everything you could ever want, residing within you. Suspend your disbelief long enough to feel like the world has more than enough for you and everyone in it. Bask in that feeling of abundance and gratitude. The consequence of such a feeling is seeing that reality manifest in your life.
Confirmation That “Anything Can Happen”
Part of the first experiment in E-Squared by Pam Grout is giving yourself a two-day time frame in which to look for the “field of potential” to present itself to you in a clear way. You look for a gift, for something to come out of the abundance that is in and all around you.
I started this experiment yesterday, Thursday, at 5:05pm. In last night’s post I mentioned that I went to a dance show at Columbia College Chicago. I was looking for the “field of potential,” or God, or the universe, the whole time. When the song “Anything Can Happen” by Elie Goulding came on during the show I thought maybe that was the sign. But I wasn’t sure, so I continued to ask the universe for a clear sign of its presence. This morning on my way to work I saw a cute wooden box under a tree and thought, “could this be the sign?” But I wasn’t that interested in the box, so once again I asked for a very clear sign.
Today we took the kids in our summer program on a field trip to a museum. We were having a great time. I remembered, as we were walking around to the different exhibits, to keep looking for this highest potential to present itself to me. I then checked my cell phone to see what time it was. I noticed I had a new voicemail from a number I didn’t recognize. I was so curious I listened to it right then, and heard a voice saying “Hi this is a message for Katie. I’m calling from the Dance Movement Therapy program at Columbia, and wanted to let you know that you won our raffle from last night! Congratulations! Please call me back to let me know when you can come pick up your prize.”
So that is what a clear sign is! And as if the experiment hadn’t gone well enough already, when I called the woman back I asked her what the prize included. There had been a couple different prize packages. The one I won included one month of unlimited yoga classes at a yoga studio that is on the same street, literally steps, from the front door of the new apartment I’m moving into in September. Now that is what I call the “field of potential” saying, “Hey Katie, what’s up? I’m here!”
Is there any downside to asking the universe to show you the best of itself? To believing that all encompassing abundance is on its way to you right now? As I said in yesterday’s post, the worst thing that can happen is that nothing happens. The best thing that can happen is beyond your wildest imagination! What miracles are you looking for in your life today? Are you expecting great things to happen? Even if you don’t yet know what you want, you can always ask for a clear sign from the universe to show you the unlimited wonders it has to offer.
