Advice I Give Myself

SoulYou are on the right track.

You may not want to hear that, especially if you’re experiencing disappointment, regret, or pain in any form.  But learning from your life situation, however it presents itself, is made exponentially easier when you don’t waste time playing mind games with it.

Those mind games can be wishing life were different, thinking about all of the things you could have done differently, and wondering why other people have it so good.  These are all ways in which the thinking mind distracts you from the task at hand, which is to accept your life situation as if you had chosen it so that you can get down to the business of inner growth.  Because in the end, you’d be learning the same lessons no matter how the outer circumstances of life were presented.

Most importantly, remember that we are all classmates.  We all go to the same school, we’re on the same team.  It may be hard to watch others around you trying and failing, and bumping into you in the hallways.  But we’re all learning.  So no matter where your life situation takes you, arm yourself with compassion for yourself and everyone else.

Personality or Prisonality

Is your personality a prison?  Do your likes and dislikes, wants and fears, opinions and attitudes interfere with your life?

I’ve never been a morning person; I would rather stay up late and sleep late.  In my life there have been countless examples of that aspect of my personality keeping me from experiences I would have loved.  During the summer in which I “woke up,” experienced a new level of being present, I suddenly realized that I could be a morning person if I wanted to.  The only thing keeping me from engaging in countless early morning activities was the fear of the voice in my head that would be furious to be thinking at 7:00am, and would ceaselessly continue its complaints until I was back in bed.  Since I had stopped taking that voice so seriously, I realized that I could be a morning person if I so chose to be. I joined a choir that met at 8:30am on Sundays.  This might sound ridiculous to all those who wake up at 3am to get to work at 5am everyday, but for me 8:30am on a weekend was never even an option.

Are you not a morning person?  Do you dislike waiting?  Can you not stand loud restaurants?  What are the parts of your personality that are keeping you from experiencing the fullness of life and your true authentic power?  In his book, The Seat Of The Soul, Gary Zukav defines authentic power as, “when the personality comes fully to serve the energy of the soul.”   In this video Gary and Oprah discuss where your authentic power comes from and how it can change your reality:

Intention and Making Your Dreams a Reality

You can be secure in the decisions you make when you operate from intention. When you can make a decision about what your intentions are, you free yourself to trust your choices and are also released from the need to rely on the reactions of others to steer your life. Intentions give you guidelines that allow you to operate as your truest self. When you create an intention you can create your own reality, make your dreams come true.

One of the keys to creating what Gary Zukav calls “authentic power” is to examine if your intentions are aimed at the good of all. Do the intentions improve life for all those around you? Do they empower people? Are they in alignment with the abundance that the universe holds for all, or instead do they operate under the false assumption that there is “not enough”? If you want to be famous, is it to have many cars, or to improve the lives of many through your art? When an intention isn’t aimed at having or getting things, but instead is helpful and caring, it is imbued with the power of the entire universe, it is authentic power.

As you go into your week practice operating from an intention you set and see how your actions and their consequences are miraculously transfigured.  In this transformational video, Oprah and Gary Zukav discuss the power of intention on Super Soul Sunday.

“It’s the principle that rules every part of Oprah’s life—and cured her disease to please. Find out why author Gary Zukav says intention is at the heart of owning your authentic power.”
